Fasting and Prayer on September 11th: The Case

Fasting is an institution as old as Adam. It has been resorted to for self-purification or for some ends, noble as well as ignoble
`Mahatma Gandhi

There are so many of us out there who pay attention to the world around us and feel utterly powerless. It’s nearly impossible for one individual to make a difference in this well oiled world economy that has their own interests in mind. Now it’s even more of a challenge because of the fact that America is being pulled in directions that the people do not even want. For the people to be split on an issue is one thing but with Syria it’s a wash.

Deeper are the issues on our own soil and for many of us, myself included, its overwhelming. It is in these dark times we have to turn inward. America needs help and answers and more than anything we need unity. Where do we find the answers? One show of collective effort amongst all Americans.  September 11th 2013 is being proposed not only as a day to remember but this year as a day of fasting and prayer to get the country back on track. Sometimes all of your genius and science don’t get the job done and you have to defer to something great than.  Tomorrow can be that day.

Below is an excerpt from the article at World Net Daily:

Government is broken. No longer does Washington see itself as a servant of the people but rather as their master.

So where do we turn? How can we save America? What would our founders do faced with such predicaments?

I suggest those of us who understand the challenges we face for the very survival of America as we have known it throughout most of its history – a shining city on a hill, one nation under God – must start planning now to do something radical.

We’ve got to do battle with the powers and the principalities we face, with the violence and immorality, envy, hatred and avarice by humbling ourselves and seeking the will and mercy of God.

A nationwide day of prayer, fasting and humility can have an enormous impact on restoring our country.

Imagine thousands of churches opening their doors to millions of worshippers who heartily confess their sins, seek forgiveness and pray for salvation and redemption and the restoration of our country.

I can think of no better date for such an event than Sept. 11, 2013.

I know there are folks reading this that scoff at religion. I would like to make a point that fasting doesn’t simply have to do with God. This should be a challenge of willpower for the people of America. A test. To what lengths will you go to retain or regain the nation’s liberty.

We have the shirts, the flags, the clever bumper stickers and the social media soap box but what are you willing to do for this nation and the freedom of its people? Fasting is not a work stoppage it’s not an armed revolution but it can be an opportunity to peer into yourself. If you don’t have the will to keep away from the Dunkin’ Donuts for one day than you are gonna struggle to make a real difference in this country.

What the eyes are for the outer world, fasts are for the inner
`Mahatma Gandhi

Whether you are hoping to appease to God or measure your own dedication to liberty. I highly encourage you to take part in this fast on September 11, 2013. It is rare that we Americans take part in combined efforts like these. They divide us so well. It’s a small fight, a personal or spiritual fight. Let’s make it an American fight. One that calls to us all.

  2. The problem with this, and I am NOT here to start a long debate or to troll, is that wrapping 9/11 in a flag covered bible, leaves those that hold the ideals and truths of America precious, yet are non-believers out in the cold, or viewed as less than the rest of the US. (Sorry for the run-on sentence). The sanctification of the act and horror of that day is akin to the sanctification of the martyred saints in catholic history. It kidnaps the event and makes it into something it isn’t.

I’m a prepper, I’m an American, I hold the ideals of our country as untouchable…and I’m an atheist.

    • Cool. I hear all of that. So just fast in an attempt to test yourself. I think it is a great opportunity to measure your will. To love America and its ideals is noble. Especially in this day and age but do you have what it takes to make a difference? The struggles in our future will be so much harder than forgoing a salami sandwich by lunch time.
